Day 6: Pancakes and yoga

I was wrong. 6:15am wasn’t set to be the standard wake up time for Lil’ D. No, today, she woke up at 4:00am. And didn’t go back to sleep until 5:15am. Anyway, it’s probably because I’ve been trying too hard and thinking a lot about what time she will be waking up… so much so, that she’s waking up at all sorts of odd hours these days.

Whatever time it is… I will find a way to get my yoga practice done. By hook or by crook.

Today, was awesome. Managed to do quite a long session today, after making some pancakes for Lil D and Kv.

The weather was nice and warm, so I felt I could stretch easily. The Posterior stretch was effortless today, [Read more...]

Day 5: Standard Operating Procedure

It looks like 6:15am is becoming the standard. Just after I lit the lamp in our altar, and sat down to do some japa…I could hear Lil D’s cheerful morning greetings coming from the bedroom.
So, it was another day of abrupt, disorganized yoga practice. Thankfully, Kv saved the day by doing Lil d’s teeth brushing routine with her (which she does most days anyway)… This gave me some time to do a couple of rounds of Suryanamskar, Sirshasana and sarvangasana. Also did the posterior stretch for a while.

And then I finished with a mini Savasana session. All in about seven minutes. [Read more...]

Day 4: Coming to reality

Three days into my daily yoga+creativity+blog project, and already I’ve hit a snag. Everyday, my challenge is to wake up early enough so that I can spend enough time praying, meditating, doing yoga and if I’m really lucky… Have breakfast before our Lil d wakes up.

However because I don’t use an alarm clock…I rarely get to wake up at the time I intend to… And most of the time I just wake up at six. Which is fine, if Lil d wakes up at about 7:30am…which used to be the case, until yesterday when she decided that 6:15am is a much better time to rise and shine. [Read more...]

Day 3: May you rest in sleepless sleep

A breeze-less night, with the temperature rising beyond 33 degrees celsius, in a home without air-conditioning, cooling units or ceiling fans. Just a portable cooler and a couple of stand fans. How much worse could it get?

Quite a bit – as it turned out. We had two blackouts last night – each lasting about an hour or more. As you can imagine, it wasn’t very pleasant. Thankfully our little one didn’t wake up during the blackouts – and slept through it all. My sleep on the other hand, felt like morse code – dots and dashes of sleep every now and then.

Thankfully I woke up at 6, and managed to get into my routine fairly easily. However practice today was very sluggish. It was probably more in my mind than in my body – but almost immediately after I got into any asana – I would tell myself – ok, that’s enough, let’s move on to the next one. [Read more...]

Day 2: No time? Do the main three…

Practice felt good today.

I took Kavi’s advice and did my pranayama after the sun exercise. What a fantastic idea.It worked beautifully – I wasn’t rushing through it at all – and I could breathe through both nostrils beautifully because it was just after the sun exercise.

Somehow step 3 and step 9 always clears my nasal passages. :)

Unlike yesterday, [Read more...]

Day 1: Shut up, listen and understand

It’s been seven years since I learnt the 12 basic asanas of Sivananda Hatha Yoga. But in these seven years, I’ve only just really practiced maybe about six months of yoga in total. Sad, isn’t it?

Of course, I blame it on the usual suspects – lack of discipline, lack of ability to manage my time, inconsistent sleeping times, meals late at night… [Read more...]
